The 2012 London Olympics are providing you with a great online marketing opportunity, but you probably don’t even realize it. During the Olympics, as with just about any other televised sport, overall interest in said sports is at an all-time high. I mean, what other times of the year do you find such vested interest in gymnastics? Or swimming? Capitalize on these interests now before the Olympic season comes to an end. Here are a couple of reasons why I think such a venture would be a smash hit for you.
First off, dreams – yes, dreams – are at an all-time high during the Olympics. Nothing motivates people’s imaginations like seeing someone else perform something cool onscreen. People start getting dreams of grandeur in their heads as they imagine that someday, they could do something similar. And if THEY can’t do it, then they can convince their kids to follow that dream so they can vicariously succeed through them. Hey, I’m not making this up. Just watch an episode of “Toddlers and Tiaras” and you’ll see what I mean.
So what does this mean for you? This means you have an opportunity to assist these dreams in achieving these illusions of grandeur – for a price, and through YOUR affiliate links. All you have to do is pick a niche and start pumping out content to draw them in.
Let’s take the example of gymnastics. Unlike some of the more difficult Olympic sports, gymnastics is a somewhat easily attainable skill, one that is shared by many a young girl with aspirations of becoming a dancer, cheerleader, or – surprise! – Olympic gymnast. Thus, plenty of parents will probably be signing their kids up for gymnastics classes in the near future.
You can take advantage of the opportunity by reviewing and promoting gymnastics equipment, such as leotards and shoes (which are NOT usually cheap, especially when purchased from professional stores). If you want to go the local route, compile a list of all the gymnastics training centers in your area – maybe even in your state – and write reviews of each. You can even interview instructors from each school to truly make your review stand out as a helpful one, rather than just making sweeping generalizations based on the school’s website – or lack thereof.
You might even write an eBook or bonus free eBook about how to make one’s child a successful gymnast, swimmer, skier, etc. Parents LOVE to read books about how to make their child succeed, especially in sports, so you can profit from this sentiment by giving them exactly what they want.
Add a twist of fun to any Olympic sport blog or website by finding funny pictures and videos of gymnastic fails and posting them with commentary. No one likes to read a drab or boring blog post every single day, so mix it up a little, and you’ll increase readership.
So you’re not mistaken as a sarcastic pseudo-blogger, be sure to temper these pictures and videos with inspirational quotes from great Olympians to boost buyer confidence. Trust me – it works.
