The Google Algorithm Change: What You Need To Know - Digital Marketing & Website Development Agency in Minneapolis

As anticipated, Google has started the slow rollout of an update that inducts its latest ranking signal Page Experience into the core algorithm. The update which had been officially christened “Page Experience Update” will complete the rollout by August. However, to begin with, Google has confirmed that the immediate impact of the rollout can be seen in the results that appear in the Top Stories.

Page Experience, or PX, is the new factor that will factor in when assessing the relevance of a search query to the searcher’s intent. We all know that the goal of the algorithm is to serve the best search results possible to the searcher. This includes keeping an eye on everything from the number of links that link to a page to the “back-links” of a site. The aim is to serve the best answers to the searcher, the algorithm also evaluates the features of the site and the quality of the content it contains, how the site functions and also how it is linked to. With PX the goal is to serve the best information to the searcher at the most relevant time. The PX is the composite of two features, the quality of content you have on your site and how easy it is to navigate.

In an earlier announcement, Google had noted that Page Experience Update is a new signal that ranks pages higher when their score is above a certain threshold. The change in the algorithm will completely alter the Page Ranking algorithm. According to Google, Page Experience will only be visible for the first 6 months that the new update is activated in the main algorithm. What are the underlying principles that lead to Page Experience? The primary principle is to better evaluate the user experience of the page. This will help the content pages to stay relevant and add relevant content to the page to match user preferences. When the user click on a link to the page, he or she is basically going to be looking for a personalized experience on the site.

Page experience is Google’s ranking signal that is aimed at measuring how engaging a particular website is in providing a smooth and consistent user experience. As per the details available, it is based on a series of attributes like the speed of a website, how well it interacts with user’s voice, and how quickly pages load. The Page Experience Update was rolled out a few weeks back. The rollout happened after noticing a considerable improvement in site performance for page users. Google expected users to see an improvement in page load speed as they spend more time on Google and other websites like Google Search and Google Maps. However, the blogpost released by Google confirmed that the Page Experience Index did not get as much an impact as expected.

Page experience means better quality websites that are conversational, transparent and more user friendly. For example, a good organic search result will give a fully rounded result and the backlinks pointing to the site would also be good. A bad organic search result will be your pages laid out with no navigation and with a poor responsive design. What else is in the update? It also emphasizes that backlinks must be quality links that back up the content. Google has also suggested that if the website has been updated with fresh content on some of the pages in a small period, that pages should be on higher priority. Once all these are implemented, the search results would be substantially better.

As announced by Google’s David Drummond, the Page Experience Algorithm (an enhancement of the existing PageRank) is a consequence of the continuing search engine ranking algorithm that employs the Page Rating Algorithm. In a bid to promote the ‘low-risk’ routes, the Page Experience Algorithm aims at increasing organic traffic for publishers. Google have already adjusted their algorithms to cope with the Page Experience Algorithm and have consequently optimized the sites that remain unaffected by the Page Experience Algorithm. The impact of this update has led to a rise in the rankings of some websites that have improved their organic ranking, while others saw a decline in their rankings.
