Former US president Donald Trump has announced his internet comeback in the form of an all-new social media platform. If this sounds familiar to you, that’s because he made a similar decision earlier this year and launched the now-defunct From The Desk Of Donald J. Trump.
But the old platform, which was more like a personal blog, didn’t offer the ability for visitors to interact with posts or with each other, so it wasn’t the social networking outlet they had come to expect. Cue Donald Trump social media site 2.0, TRUTH Social, which claims to welcome “an open, free, and honest global conversation against political ideology.”
TRUTH Social, launched under Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), touts itself as “America’s ‘Big Tent’” aimed to go up against leading tech companies, including Twitter and Facebook, that have restricted Trump and his followers access.
“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” the former president declares in a press release published by Trump’s chief spokesperson Liz Harrington. Trump’s social network will also serve as “a rival to the liberal media consortium.”
A beta version of TRUTH Social is scheduled to be ready in November, though it will be for invited guests only. It will then officially open to the US public in the first quarter of 2022.
